That is all I get?! What do you want me to tell you?
Two weeks ago I submitted an offer on a REO property being marketed for sale by a very established REO broker here in town. I did the follow up call as usual, confirmed receipt of the offer, and was told that there was no other offers on the table. We were just waiting for an answer from the lender. First week waltzed by with no answer despite my follow up calls strategically placed to ensure that I was on top of things without being overbearing. Client is obviously nervous as he sees no reason why his offer is not even dignified with an answer. Be patient, I say, REO deals are usually like this. And then there was today. The seller has countered another offer, they say. Uhmm…which offer are you referring to, miss? Until yesterday, everyone was under the impression that we were the only offer on the table.
And then she dropped it on me. What do you want me to tell you?
That’s an interesting question, I thought, after the wave of frustration eased off. You should tell me that there are multiple offers on a property so that we can make our highest and best offer. You should tell me that you’re sorry for your incompetence and for keeping me hanging for over two weeks. I understand that your client is the bank and your loyalty and service is dedicated to them. However, you owe me and other Realtors that put offers on your properties the plain courtesy of keeping us updated on the file.
What do you want me to tell you? What a sorry response..
